Abstract submission is now closed.
Abstracts may cover any topic related to the training of junior doctors, medical education and patient care however preference will be given to abstracts that relate to the conference theme of Creative Disruption and the sub themes of technology, people and place.
You should be prepared to present at any time between 1.00pm on Monday 28 October and 12.00pm Wednesday 30 October 2019. We are unable to provide a specific day or time of presentation yet.
All submissions are reviewed by several members of the Program Committee using the following criteria. Decisions made by the Committee are final.
- Originality and relevant – is the paper original, relevant?
- Theme – does the abstract meet one of the forum themes? – Technology, People, Place
- Innovation – is the abstract/topic? – innovative
- Evaluation/rigour – is there an evaluation or research methodology to support the innovation or idea?
Research Papers – 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes Q&A
Research papers are presentations of a single original research study or activity that is theoretically relevant and methodologically sound. This is an opportunity for presentation of quality medical education research, formal program evaluation or quality improvement activities with accompanying evidence. Each presentation is 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for discussion.
To be considered for this stream the abstract must include methods in addition to the abstract headings above.
Short communications – 10 minutes (8 minutes followed by 2 minutes Q&A)
Short papers can be around an innovation, project, initiative or research.
Short communications will be grouped into similar themes.
Short Innovations or creative disruptions – 5 minutes (3 slides maximum)
Share an idea or innovation in a brief presentation. No evaluation necessary – just tell the audience about an innovation that has changed things for junior doctors or an innovation that didn’t work and what you learnt from that implementation to share with others.
A Panel Discussion features several individuals presenting their ideas regarding a specific issue or topic and responding to questions. A moderator will facilitate panel comments and audience participation. Proposals for Panel Discussions should include identification of all panelists by role/title, an abstract to clarify the different themes and focus of the discussion, anticipated total session time, and the method by which audience interaction will be facilitated.
Digital posters – without presentation
Digital posters will be available throughout the forum venue for the duration of the forum. They provide an overview of projects, initiatives or research.
Pecha Kucha 20×20 is a presentation format in which presenters talk to 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and the presenter talks along with the images – each presentation lasts for 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Because of this, practicing the presentation is crucial to giving a good Pecha Kucha talk.
This is an opportunity to share your opinion or thoughts about a specific subject related to junior doctor training. Junior doctors wanting to share their own personal experiences are encouraged to use this format to tell us your story.
This presentation format offers the opportunity for a small group of participants to have in depth discussions on a specific problem, issue or theme. Sessions will take place in boardroom format, with all participants seated around one table to promote interaction and discussion. At the end of the session the group should have some recommendations or outcomes from the session. A chairperson will coordinate the session.
Workshops –1 or 1.5 hour workshops
Workshops are instructional sessions in which presenters teach skills, techniques or enable small group discussions. The session should have specific learning objectives that describe what participants will achieve or do during the workshop. The session should include opportunities for practice and feedback.
We encourage workshops that address key conference themes as well as workshops that allow participants to gain core medical educational skills required in the environment of junior doctor training.
Submit a structured proposal in 600 words or less that includes specific objectives and also outlines what participants will do. Please note two-part workshops will also be considered.
